Bard PowerPort catheter lawsuits have been reviewed by the United States Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation (JPML). Upon due consideration, the JPML selected the District of Arizona as the venue in which Bard PowerPort injury claims would be heard by the federal court system.
The District of Arizona is part of the 9th Circuit of the U.S. court system, and appeals are heard by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Consolidation of a multitude of PowerPort catheter lawsuits was done in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 1407. Newly filed cases are expected to likewise be transferred to the District of Arizona.
The District of Arizona may have been selected partly because of its experience handling a prior multi-district litigation involving the C.R. Bard company.

Judge David G. Campbell Presides over Bard PowerPort Catheter Litigation
District of Arizona Judge David G. Campbell has been selected by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation to oversee Bard PowerPort catheter lawsuits nationwide.
Judge Campbell was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah, where he graduated summa cum laude. Following his passion for law, he attended the University of Chicago Law School, earning his Juris Doctor with honors.
Upon graduating, the future jurist clerked for Judge J. Clifford Wallace of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Campbell then entered private practice, joining a well-regarded law firm where he specialized in complex civil litigation.
In addition to his legal practice, Campbell served as an adjunct professor at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. In that position, he taught courses in civil procedure and complex litigation.
Judge David G. Campbell was first appointed to the bench as a U.S. District Judge for the District of Arizona in 2003 by President George W. Bush.
